REAL BRIDE: Katelyn
Alex + Katelyn Hunter
10.28.17
A donut tower, all white florals, a Kansas City skyline + one heck of a chandelier - just a few of the fabulous, simple + trendy details that made up this modern / traditional Missouri wedding. With navy bridesmaids dresses + the sweetest proposal story you've ever heard, we think these two did everything right. We could talk + talk about the endless details in this total stunner, but scrolling down + seeing for yourself sounds so much better.
How did Alex pop the question?
"My Papa + Granny live on a farm in Fayette, Missouri. It is a small town outside of Columbia + actually where Alex + I both went to college. The farm is one of my favorite places on the planet + every year on the Saturday closest to the 4th of July, we have a big fish fry / 4th of July party. The whole family gets together with all of our friends + I love it! My Granny + Papa have been having it for the last 24 years + counting! Back before Alex + I were even thinking about marriage, I always said it would be so cool to get engaged out at the farm. Well on the day of the fish fry, before everyone arrived, in the pouring rain, our little puppy Paisley delivered a note that said, "Mommy, will you marry my daddy?" + when I looked up Alex was on one knee with tears in his eyes + asked me to marry him. My family was there, my granny + papa were there + his family was there. He will laugh + tell you the weather could have been better, but it was the most perfect day!"
Where did you draw inspiration + ideas from?
"A lot of my ideas came from Pinterest + then finding ways to create my own twist / personal touch on it. I did take some inspiration from my mom + dad's wedding though as well. My mom wore a long sleeve dress, which also happened to be the one my grandmother wore + I had a piece of sewn into the heart of my wedding dress + inspired me to go with a long sleeve dress. She also had a white flower bouquet + had the groomsmen in the opposite color of the groom - which looked amazing!"
How did the two of you meet for the first time?
"We met my freshman year, Alex's sophomore year of college. My roommate at the time was seeing one of his roommates + she didn't want to go hangout in their five man suite by herself, so I agreed to go. When I walked in, I knew no one + grabbed the last empty seat on the couch, which happened to be next to Alex. He caught my attention because I thought he was cute, so I wasn't mad about the situation. As the night + conversation progressed, he found out I hate feet, so naturally, he put his feet on me. Won my heart over in a weird way!"
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
"I wouldn't say our wedding really had a theme. I wanted it to be fairly simple, as that is fitting for both mine + Alex's personalities, but elegant. We went with navy + silver for our colors, with white flowers + I am obsessed with how everything turned out! It could not have been more perfect!"
What made you two decide on October 28th?
"If we are being real here, I knew I wanted to have my wedding reception at The Guild before I was even engaged. Alex + I both also knew we wanted a fall wedding, as it's our favorite time of year, which also happens to be the most popular time of the year. It was the very last Saturday in October 2017 that they had available, so we took it! It wasn't until a few months later that we actually figured out that our wedding date would be six years to the day of our first kiss. So in a weird twist of fate, it was perfect!"
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
"Alex + I decided not to do a first look + we didn't talk to each other day of the wedding. All morning I wanted to text him to see if he was as excited as I was, but didn't. My favorite moment of the day was, no questions asked, when the church doors opened as I walked down the aisle with my dad + saw Alex for the first time. We both cried, I had the biggest smile on my face + the moment was perfect, I can't even really put it into words."
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
"Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone with the types of dresses you try on. My sister picked out some dresses that I would have never in a million years have picked out, but I am thankful she did. I never second guessed my choice because I saw what I looked like in a ballgown, a strapless dress, a mermaid + everything else. Also remember that you have to love it regardless of any other opinions, because you're the one wearing it at the end of the day + you want to feel like the most beautiful bride ever on your wedding day. My last piece of advice would really be to not stress, because you really will just know when you put on the dress. I was fairly confident that I wanted a long sleeve dress + I tried on numerous before Jules, but they just didn't fit right or I didn't just fall in love. The minute I stepped into my dress, I just knew. Trust me, you will have that moment as well."
Congratulations Alex + Katelyn!
We love your love.
