Cleaning + Preserving Your Wedding Gown
Cleaning + Preserving Your Wedding Gown
Hey babe! The big day has come and gone and what a dream it was. Now you’re in the post-wedding phase — less sparkle, more to-do lists. You’ve checked off vendor reviews, thank-you notes and even ordered your wedding album. Next up? Taking care of the dress.
You might not be totally sure what the future holds for your gown —maybe you’re saving it for a daughter or granddaughter, maybe you’ll donate or sell it, or maybe it’s staying with you forever because, let’s be honest, you married your very best friend in it and that makes it priceless. Whatever you decide, one thing is non-negotiable: your bridal gown needs to be cleaned and preserved.
Here is everything you need to know about the gown cleaning and preservation service at Something White Bridal Boutique.
So how does it work?
At Something White Bridal Boutique, we partner with a trusted professional preservation service to clean and preserve your wedding gown with the utmost care. This multi-step process removes dirt, oils, and invisible stains that, over time, can permanently damage delicate fabrics and embellishments.
Once cleaned, your gown is carefully protected from the strain of hanging (which can cause stress on seams) and is expertly packaged in a triple-sealed preservation chest. The box includes a heavy, sealed plastic viewing window—so you can peek at your dress any time—while still protecting it from air, sunlight, moisture, and insects. Your gown will remain in beautiful condition until you choose to open it again.
Why professional cleaning matters:
Even if your gown looks spotless, hidden stains—especially those from sugar, salt, or oils—can develop into yellow or brown marks over time. Ordinary dry-cleaning doesn’t remove these types of stains, but our preservation process does. Every gown is meticulously inspected, cleaned, and treated to prevent long-term damage and discoloration.
The preservation process:
Expert Pressing and Folding: Your gown is gently pressed and shaped to avoid deep creases that could become permanent over time.
Acid-Free Materials: Traditional boxes and tissues can contain acid that yellows and weakens fabrics. We only use acid-free, pH-neutral materials to keep your dress safe.
Sealed for Protection: Your gown is placed in a museum-grade inner box with acid-free tissue, then sealed in a heat-shrink, oxygen-removed outer wrap. Finally, it’s placed in a protective outer box—completely shielded from dust, light, and air.
We’re just as excited to clean and preserve your gown as we were to help you find it (or even if you found it elsewhere — no worries, we’ve got you!).
