Tell us about the proposal!
“Tyler had intended to propose to me on my birthday, October 9th. However, my Grandpa Huff was taken to the hospital + in intensive care two days before, so we ended up spending that entire weekend at the hospital. Due to complications, my grandpa was sent home on hospice two weeks after. Ty had postponed everything due to the circumstances, but when he found out that my grandpa didn't have much time left, he knew he needed to do it. So the night before I left for my hometown to help take care of my grandpa, he proposed at home with the help of our dog, Moose. I was able to tell my grandpa about my engagement and have my last coherent conversation with him the next day. He passed 3 days after we got engaged.”
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
“Go to Something White!!! I had such an amazing experience + absolutely love all the girls that work there. The selection is killer + you truly feel like a one-of-a-kind bride. But also don't pressure yourself too much. I thought I knew what I wanted going in, but ended up with a dress completely different + I am so in love with it. Have an open mind + be willing to explore all of your options.”
What made you decide on December 8th?
“I stole our date from my Grandpa + Grandma Huff. It would have been their 62nd wedding anniversary this year. My grandparents have always been my absolute most favorite people in the world + they were an outstanding example of love + marriage. I figured it had to be good luck to get married on their anniversary!”
How did you know your gown was “the one”?
“I tried on a lot of dresses but kept going back to the same style + fit as the one I ended up with. It was down to it + one other + then Emma put a veil on me + gave me a bouquet to hold + as I looked at myself in the mirror I started crying. I remember saying, "I just wish my mom was here to see me" + that's when we all knew it was the one. Because it created that emotional reaction + really connected with me that this was it, the one I'd get married in!”
How did you + Tyler meet?
“We met during college at Mizzou. We were actually introduced through one of Tyler's groomsmen, who was his roommate + who had become a great friend of mine because we were in the J-school together.”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
“Yes, I wanted to take advantage of winter but avoid the traditional red + green color scheme . So I really focused on blues + metallics: navy, slate blue, silver + touches of gold. My amazing florist was also able to mix together eucalyptus with evergreen to really tie in with my venue's Christmas decor.”
Where did you draw your inspiration + ideas from?
“I would be lying if I didn't say I spent a lot of time on Pinterest! But I also just knew what I liked + sought out elements that went with the idea in my head.”
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
“Wow, that's a tough one! Our ceremony was so so special. I loved everything about it. We wrote our own vows + they were absolutely perfect. Our pastor did such a great job not only focusing on our love for each other, but also honoring our loved ones we've lost + our faith. All of the moments with my dad were also so incredibly special as my mom passed way three years ago. I will cherish them forever. + my Maid of Honor's toast was maybe the best toast I've ever heard! She's the one who got me to ugly cry.”
Congratulations Tyler + Skyler!
