First off, Happy Valentines Day! What better way to celebrate a day full of love than throwing even more love at it by featuring Nate + Shelby + their October wedding on the blog this evening! These two kicked off their marriage with the ultimate Pinterest wedding complete with DIY crafts + floral arrangements - so fun! We love everything about the Lueckenhoff wedding but especially love the personal details [ Shelby wearing her mother’s wedding day gloves + garter ] + the rustic but still classic + traditional feel of the day. Scroll down for all the pretties + to see Shelby’s STUNNING engagement ring + then get to pinning on Pinterest!
How did the two of you meet?
“We met through mutual friends. My roommate in Kansas City is from the same town as Nate + they went to high school together. We officially met + hung out for the first time at my roommate + I's 24th birthday party!”
How did the proposal happen?
“Nate proposed back in my hometown, Macon, Missouri, at my childhood home on my 26th birthday. It was August 12, 2017 + the best proposal I ever could have imagined. I was totally surprised + my entire family + all my friends were there + all knew the plan! The proposal happened with me opening what I thought was just a birthday gift from my sister in front of everyone. It was a Snapfish photo album + the front of it read, "Mrs. Lueckenhoff." My mind started racing + I was confused + wondering “is this really happening?!” I then looked to my side + my now husband, Nate, was down on one knee. I am super close to my family + friends so I couldn't have planned a better day. It was the best birthday of my life! We celebrated all night at my childhood home with family + friends.”
What made you decide on October 20th?
“We knew we wanted either September or October for a Fall wedding. From there we landed on October. We knew we didn't want October 13th as my husband is superstitious when it comes to numbers. Haha! We liked the sound of 10/20 + it worked with our family + close friends so we went for it!”
How did you know your gown was “the one”?
“I was down between two dresses at Something White + they were both very different from one another. I put on the dress I didn't get one final time + something just didn't feel right. Then, I put on my dress. When I looked in the mirror, I had tears in my eyes + I just knew this was it. I felt so beautiful + felt my mom with me knowing she would love my dress. She passed away from cancer two years ago. It was so hard not having her as part of my wedding journey + just life in general. But this day I had my aunt [ my mom's sister, ] my two cousins, my cousins little girl + sister by my side. They made my day so special + so did Something White. It really was a wonderful dress shopping experience.”
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
“Try on all types of dresses - even if it is not what you had in mind. The dress I ended up going with was the one a consultant picked out for me. On the rack I didn't think it seemed that special, but when I put the dress on - it felt so right.”
Where did you draw your inspiration + ideas from while planning?
“I did a lot of Pinteresting. I also had The Knot wedding book + used their website. Both were super helpful for planning. My sister//Maid of Honor was amazing too + had great ideas.”
What was one of your favorite moments from the day?
“I LOVED walking down the aisle with my dad by my side + having him present me to my future husband. The moment was so surreal. I wasn't nervous at all. I was just so excited + ready to marry the man of my dreams. It really did feel like a fairy tale day. I also really enjoyed the entire wedding ceremony. It was such a neat experience I will forever cherish.”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
“Our wedding colors were burgundy + navy. A lot of our decor was made out of wood from my Dad's land. We made decor + branded wood with the letter "L" for table decor. I loved doing a lot of DIY projects. I also made our wedding programs + napkin holders to give everything a more personal touch.”
Congratulations Nate + Shelby!
