REAL BRIDE: Kimberly
Ryan + Kimberly Driskell
2.16.19
A couple of cuties on the Something White Bridal blog today! Ryan + Kimberly met while in the military + tied the knot in Kansas City just a little over a month ago [ Mikaela Wendel back at it with the speedy edits .] Their wedding was a party + their rich color scheme looks amazing with the snow we received! If you’re planning a winter wedding, look no further for all of your planning inspiration! Pinterest, who?
How did the two of you meet?
“We met on May 22nd, 2016 - which was Memorial Day weekend. We met because we are both in the military. Ryan is in the Marine Reserves, in Peoria, Illinois + I am in the Air National Guard, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Ryan was living in Illinois + I was here in Kansas City. Our units had Annual Training in Maine + we both went to get training in our career field. The military doesn’t alway have joint-branch training but it just ended up being joint training this go-around.
Ryan admits he is the one who was interested first + we ended up working closely together for two weeks building a dining facility for the Boy Scouts of America in Maine. Through this experience we became close friends + Ryan visited Kansas City a month later + it was history from there.”
Tell us about the proposal!
“Ryan told me that we were going to go to a nice dinner [ meaning I had to dress nice ] before meeting up with friends later to play True American - big New Girl fans over here. On our way he pulled into the Down Town Kansas City Airport + surprised me with an amazing helicopter ride over all of Kansas City during sunset. I was very suspicious but nothing happened up in the air so I let the thought go. After our tour we were taking pictures in front of the helicopter + that is when he did the deed + got down on a knee. We then continued to dinner where he surprised me on the roof top of Bar Louie in Zona with all my family + friends!”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
“I really love Birch trees, burgundy + black so we incorporated those elements. The blue tuxes were a last minute decision because something just wasn't right about the grey ones I wanted. They ended up looking very good with a burgundy tie + very Pinterest inspired.”
What advice would you give to other brides in regard to dress shopping?
“Pick something about a dress that you will not compromise on. I wanted lace + not a single ounce of beading + this request did limit my choices, but I would have never tried on the dress I picked if I wouldn't have had that request set in my mind. I started out wanting a ball gown silhouette, but like every other dress I had shopped for in my life, I ended up with the opposite of what I thought I would like.”
How did you know your gown was “the one”?
“It complimented all of me + my personality. I felt like a star!”
Where did you draw inspiration + ideas from?
“Lots + lots of Pinterest!”
Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Driskell!
Wishing you the sweetest start to forever.
