REAL BRIDE: Kelsey
Clint + Kelsey Legate
09.08.18
So excited to be sharing Clint + Kelsey’s gorgeous September wedding with you fine viewers today! The Legate wedding was based on a Sweet Home Alabama theme [ heck yes, sister ] with views of our brides grandparents farm + the s w e e t e s t pup you ever did see. After putting together this post, we have all the small town country wedding feels + we are not mad about it. Kelsey looked killer in the Kinsley gown by Casablanca Bridal + it was all captured beautifully by Sydney Davidson Photography. Scroll down for the stuff you really want to see + the best proposal story probably ever.
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning your wedding?
“Haha! I really wanted a classic, simple, Sweet Home Alabama wedding. Our colors were navy + blush.”
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
“I tried on quite a few dresses at quite a few shops. The vison I had for my dress completely changed after I tried on a few, so I would suggest trusting your consultant + being open to other styles + options.”
What made the two of you decide on September 8th?
“It is actually a funny story! We wanted an outdoor reception + didn't want to wait until next year to tie the knot. We decided on September 8th + because it was such a quick engagement + most venues were taken, we landed on my grandparents farm for our reception. It was my dream to have a Sweet Home Alabama wedding [ + life for that matter - peep our bloodhound, Ellie ] on a large lawn with a farmhouse in the background. I also never decided on a rain plan + kept saying if it were to rain, I would channel my inner Reece Witherspoon + yell, "We're going to the bar!" Unfortunately the week of the wedding, the remnants of the hurricane came through Missouri + my parade was literally rained on. Since our local bar couldn’t actually accommodate our 230 guests, we went with the local community building as it was available + my family helped us change our entire venue + planning in 24 hours!”
How did the two of you meet?
“Super romantic - we met at a family friend's 40th birthday party with an imitation 80’s band playing in the background + a few brews flowing.”
Tell us about the proposal!
“Clint suggested we go to Belvoir Winery to meet for drinks with his sister + brother-in-law. We had never been, so we were walking throughout the venue. On one of the staircases, the sunset was shining through the windows + the lighting was perfect. His sister suggested a photo + as we got situated, Clint kept fidgeting. I literally said "What, are you going to propose or something?" I guess that left him with no other choice + he couldn't stall anymore.”
What was one of your favorite moments of your wedding day?
“Walking down the aisle was hands down my favorite part of the day. One of our friends sang my aisle song, "Makin' Plans" by Miranda Lambert + it was the most surreal moment of my life - to be walking towards my husband surrounded by all of our friends + family.”
When did you know your gown was the one?
“When I wanted to put my dress back on for a second time, I knew that was it + it would be the one I would choose.”
Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Legate!
Thank you for being a sweet part of our SWBB family.
