REAL BRIDE: Katherine
Katherine + Alex
10.9.21
There is nothing quite like a downtown Kansas City wedding in the fall, so it makes sense that Katherine and Alex planned their wedding to be just that. When planning their wedding, they knew they wanted modern accents with a timeless and simple feel. While wedding planning, they drifted towards dried florals and rust, navy and champagne color ways that played well with the time of year and feel of their rustic industrial wedding venue.
To make their day even more special, Katherine and Alex shared an intimate first look and celebrated their union after their ceremony with some alone time with their photographer - one of their favorite parts of their day!

How did you decide to get married on October 9th?
“We didn’t have an exact date in mind. We just knew we wanted October. It’s just a beautiful time in the midwest!”
How did you know your gown was the one?
"There's a feeling that overwhelms you when you're in your dress. I looked at myself and just knew that's how I wanted my husband to see me.”
How did the two of you meet?
"We met in high school through mutual friends. One of our friends had told me “I know someone who likes you.” That same night, we were both stealing glances at each other constantly. As time passed we started seeing more of each other and just clicked. Our relations always felt more than a teenage fling.”
Tell us about the proposal!
"We were on a weekend getaway trip to San Diego. Alex suggested we go watch the sunset at Sunset Cliffs on the coastline. I was hoping this would be the time, but when I looked to his pocket on the drive over there was no ring box in sight. When we arrived at the cliffs, he made me walk in front of him until he found a spot he liked the best. I was so frustrated he wouldn't just lead the way and kept turning around to ask if we had gone far enough. Right as the sun was on the horizon line, he pulls the ring box from behind his back. When I asked him later where he hid it, he said "Inside my pants, I knew you'd look at my pocket. That's why I needed you to walk in front of me, I had to get it out!"
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
“Have an idea of likes, dislikes, and silhouettes you want to try. It's easy to feel overwhelmed with all your options! Follow places you'd like to go on instagram to get an idea of their vibe to see if it matches what you want. Most of all, trust your consultant! They do this everyday and have great feedback.”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
"We knew we wanted modern accents on a timeless feel. Simple, but elegant. Rust was a color we wanted to incorporate for the fall date and navy and champagne fell in perfectly as complements. Dried floral wasn't always in the plan but it really caught my eye and I loved how the muted colors really let our accent colors shine.”
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
“I loved the time between the ceremony and reception where Alex and I were alone with our photographer Sarah. All the nerves had washed away, we were officially married, and we got to bask in it all during golden hour. Highly recommend!”
Where did you draw your inspiration + ideas from?
“Like everyone, mostly pinterest as well as local KC weddings and styled shoots featured by Wed KC”
