REAL BRIDE: Darci
Scott + Darci Agee
10.27.18
Hello, hello, hello! More custom goodness on the blog today! Woohoo! Darci’s custom creation was made from a killer Lis Simon bodice + a soft + flowy Robert Bullock Bride skirt + THAT VEIL. Darci had a custom veil created using the lace from her bodice to tie everything together. These cuties took a classical meets fall wedding approach + executed the dang thing perfectly. From a gorgeous ceremony to an elegant reception at The Stanley, everything about the Agee day was flawless. Please note, I may* have cried a few** times putting this post together.
*definitely did
**the entire time
Scott + Darci met the Summer of 2009 - before their Freshman year of High School. Darci took a little convincing before she agreed to go out with Scott but eventually she decided to give him a shot + they started officially dating shortly after. The two dated through High School + grew together as best friends. When it came time for college, Scott took an opportunity to play football at a school in California + Darci stayed closer to home + attended Kansas State University. It didn’t take long + after a semester, Scott decided that his future career was more important to him than playing football and pursued his dream of becoming an airline pilot at one of the top aviation schools in the nation… which just happened to lead him to Kansas State University.
After Scott graduated in December of 2016, he moved to Maryland to become a flight instructor to build up flight time in order to get a job at an airline. Darci was finishing up her spring semester in Manhattan + had an internship lined up in Kansas City for the summer. Distance was something that the couple had grown used to over the years + while they didn’t enjoy it, they had the hang of it. Scott’s schedule was always sporadic but when he had days off, getting home to Kansas City was easy for him. In July of 2017, Scott happened to get a week off of work + flew back to Kansas City to spend time with family + friends. After a couple days in town, Scott decided it was the perfect time to ask Darci to marry him.
On a random Tuesday, Scott set out to buy an engagement ring with his mom + Darci’s best friend while she was at work + under the impression he was golfing with friends. Later that same day, Scott came over to Darci’s house + asked her to go fishing with him. When they got in the car, Scott handed Darci a Beanie Baby puppy + told her that they’d be getting a Golden Retriever from a litter that was being born in the fall. At first, Darci thought he was kidding - like he had done in the past - but after some convincing, she believed him. She was so excited about the puppy, it was all she could think about as the drove to go fishing.
Scott took Darci fishing at the pond in his neighborhood because they spent quite a bit of time there in High School. Once they got to the pond + out on the dock, Scott kneeled down to get the engagement ring out of the tackle box where he had it hidden. Darci didn’t realize what was going on until she saw Scott holding the ring box while still kneeled on the ground. They were both so excited that neither one can remember what was said between them, other than Scott asking + Darci saying “yes”! They both agreed it was best to walk off of the dock + into the grass before putting the ring on Darci’s finger - in fear they’d drop it though the cracks + into the pond.
Eventually, Scott admitted that he never intended to fish, he just needed an excuse to get Darci to the pond without her questioning him. The newly engaged couple went out to dinner to celebrate the beginning of their new chapter in life + all that the future had in store for them. Darci’s plans included moving to Dallas, Texas after graduation to start her career as an electrical designer, while Scott, an airline pilot, will join her in October to start on their new journey together.
What made you decide on October 27th?
“Kinda funny actually - I knew the winter would be too cold for me + the summer would be too hot for Scott, plus he has really bad spring allergies so we knew we had to get married in the fall! We fell in love with The Stanley + October 27th was one of their last available fall Saturday dates!”
What advice would you give to other brides in regard to dress shopping?
“I think it's key to keep an open mind + follow your feelings - unless you've tried it on how can you truly know? It can be overwhelming because you'll try on a bunch of beautiful dresses, but it's key to differentiate between a dress you love because it's pretty + a dress you'll be walking down the aisle to marry your best friend in!”
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
“The best part of our wedding day was hanging out with our bridal party on the trolley from the ceremony to the reception! All the stress + anticipation of the day had subsided + everyone was in such a great mood + happy to be celebrating our love! Plus they are our best friends so of course it's going to be a good time!”
Where did you draw your inspiration + ideas from?
“I was overwhelmed at the beginning of our engagement because there were so many ideas I wanted to run with. I quickly realized I needed to take things a step at a time + then everything will begin to fall into place. Getting the reception space was a huge factor because it narrowed down what kind of decor, table settings + floral arrangements I wanted. After that my inspiration was right in front of me because I could begin to picture my big day with all of the little details + how they would fit into the big picture!”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
“We wanted a timeless + classic wedding. We tried to go simple + elegant with every part of our day so that there would be minimal distraction from what everyone was there to celebrate! We knew we wanted black tuxes + I wanted the girls in dark bridesmaids dresses + the fall weather fit that perfectly. From there we really relied on the opinions of our vendors, since we didn't have a set vision for the day.”
How did you know your gown was “the one”?
“I am not a crier + then there I was crying with this beautiful dress on. I really doubted that I would have a moment but I did + it sealed the deal for me!”
Congratulations Darci + Scott!
Wishing you love + laughter in your newest adventure of marriage!
