Tell us about the proposal!
“Jamison has never really been that great at keeping secrets or planning surprises. I knew the proposal was coming, I just didn’t know when. So every day I would dress up really cute + make sure my hair + makeup was done nicely, because you just never know! One day, December 28th to be exact, I had absolutely zero reason to look cute. I had no where to go, nothing to do, I was just sitting at home. I texted Jamison to see if he wanted to go see a movie that night to give me some sort of reason to look good. He said, “Sure + maybe we can go to Bonefish Grill for dinner beforehand?” [ that was my favorite restaurant ]. I IMMEDIATELY texted my friend Sydney + said, “I’m getting engaged today.” When Jamison got home, he texted me + asked if I would take pictures of him + his dog to send to his family. It was, like, 17 degrees outside with 15mph winds. That is NOT photo weather… I knew it was going to happen there. So here we go, out to take pictures. Jamison had this whole idea that he would pull the ring box out + I would get a photo of the box open, but as soon as he started to pull the box out I started crying + didn’t even get a good pic. It’s pictured above.”
How did you decide on October 11th?
“The venue that we were wanting originally was a very popular venue, especially during the fall. It was an outdoor vineyard near Wichita that had a beautiful, large white tent, something I had envisioned at my wedding. When picking our date, I initially thought that choosing a Friday would open up some availability when choosing a venue. However, the venue we wanted was fully booked for 2019. I ended up reaching out to Distillery 244 next + they gave me an unbeatable deal with the bridal fair discount that they had going on. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity + we stuck to a Friday! Actually, it worked out great, because the temperature the week we got married averaged near 70 degrees + it dropped down to a nice 42 degrees the day of our wedding. Thankful for an indoor venue + NOT an outdoor one. :)”
How did the two of you meet?
“We both grew up in a small town 30 miles north of Wichita, Kansas. Jamison moved to Hesston his 7th grade year, which was my 2nd grade year - sounds weird, I know, but we didn’t date then!! He + his family moved into the house at the end of the cul de sac right next to ours, so we practically shared a yard. Jamison + my brother became close friends + as a [ not so ] good little sister does, I always wanted to hang out with them. I developed a HUMUNGOUS crush on Jamison that never really went away. Jamison ended up moving to Wisconsin for a few years in college for voluntary service. We would keep in touch via various social media while he was away. When he moved back, I was graduating high school. At my graduation party Jamison asked my mom + brother if he could date me + the rest is history! “
How did you know your gown was the one?
“Honestly, when I saw it hanging in the dressing room, I thought to myself, “There is no way I will like how that looks. It is way too tight + will make me feel so self conscious.” I tried it on + immediately I was like, “HOLY COW I LOOK GOOOOOD!!!!” I walked out of the dressing room + was walking towards my family. The other girls’ family that were there looked + I could hear them say, “Wow, look at that one!” or “That is really beautiful.” I felt AWESOME. I got to my own family + all of their faces lit up. It just so happened this was the first dress I tried on, so I was skeptical, but no other dresses compared after this one. I am beyond grateful that I chose the dress I did + that is one thing I would never, ever in a million years change about my wedding day.”
What advice would you give to other brides in regard to dress shopping?
“Absolutely go out of your comfort zone. Try on everything from ballgowns with lace, sequins + sparkle to the most simple form fitting dresses. Your idea of the perfect dress might not be the one that makes you feel + look like a million bucks.”
Where did you draw your inspiration + ideas from?
“Since I am a wedding photographer myself, I drew a lot of “what to do's” + “what not to do’s” from observing other weddings. A lot of my ideas were inspired by other weddings that I had photographed in the past, otherwise, most of it was from Pinterest - of course.”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
“In my mind, I had imagined a traditional twist on a modern wedding. Not the other way around. I loved the industrial look, but I also wanted classic accents to it as well. I knew I wanted nothing to do with eucalyptus, unless the florist absolutely had to as filler. I think we definitely achieved our goal for the overall look of the wedding. If it wasn’t for my mom communicating with all of the Wichita vendors, while I was in Kansas City, our wedding would not have been what it was.”
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
“I loved, loved, LOVEDDDDD our final dance of the evening. It was just the perfect ending to the perfect day. A lot of people had left the reception at this point + it was mainly just our families + closest friends remaining. They all circled around us as we danced to, “Feels Like Home” by Chantal Kreviazuk. One of my friends filmed the whole thing + I think I watched that video, like, 400 times on our honeymoon.”
Congratulations Jamison + Bailey!
We love your love + wish you the sweetest forever!
