REAL BRIDE: Quinlan
Troy + Quinlan
3.13.21
Troy + Quinlan got married during the craziest year + a half probably ever. Their plans had to be flexible [ from the proposal through wedding day ] but they hung on tight + were able to become husband + wife with their family + friends in attendance to help celebrate.
Quinlan found her perfect gown with us in July of 2020 + was even able to take it home the very same day - whoop whoop! It fit her beautifully + she’s lucky enough to be the only #swbbkcbride to ever wear it! We are loving the dark green details of Troy + Quinlan’s day + cannot stop gushing about the orange berries featured in their florals + obviously, Camryn Lee Creative’s [ our Instagram bestie’s ] stunning photography.
We are so excited to share this sweet wedding day with all of you + hope you enjoy celebrating Troy + Quinlan as much as we do!
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
“Be open-minded and trust your stylist!! It's okay to have an idea of what you want to look like on your wedding day and a certain style in mind, but they really are just there to help. I had tried on so many dresses, in what felt like every style possible, and I "thought" I knew what I wanted. My choice couldn't have been more perfect, but also was extremely far off from the original vision in my head.”
What made you decide to get married on March 13th?
“When we got engaged in October of 2019, we looked at getting married in December 2020 but as the pandemic began, we hoped that we might have a shot at health concerns being better in March 2021. Troy is currently working on his Ph.D., so we intentionally booked the 13th, as that was the beginning of his spring break. His spring break was of course later canceled and widespread vaccines were still new by early March, but hey, that's what happens when you decide to get married during a global pandemic.”
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
“The entire weekend was cold, rainy, and extremely windy. Thank you, Kansas! While I had hoped that we could get married in the outdoor chapel on the property, we ended up moving everything inside to the barn. But, we were able to do our first look and the bridal party photos in the chapel. There was a moment after our first look where Troy and I were on our way from the chapel to the barn for the ceremony. The rain had cleared for just a moment and the sky was absolutely beautiful. Our photographer was in the car behind us and I stopped us so that we could hop out really quickly for some photos. It was just the two of us out in the middle of a field, no parents, no bridal party, and right before everything really began. It was quite literally the calm before the storm and I loved every second of the peace it brought to the day.”
Tell us about the proposal!
“The proposal that was supposed to happen: In Winfield, Kansas (where we went to college) there is an annual music festival. Even before we attended school there, it was something special to both of our families. Troy had plans to get all our families together the weekend of the festival, in September of 2019 and propose then. But, he had the weekends mixed up, meaning that our families were not planning to be there on the actual weekend of the festival. Not to mention, I had already accidentally found out about his plan. When this did not work out all according to his plan, about a month later we planned for a romantic outdoor picnic in one of our favorite local spots for our anniversary. But the weather that day had other ideas and ruined all plans again. The proposal that happened: After the fiasco of the weekend in Winfield, the failed attempt at a romantic outdoor setting, Troy ended up proposing on our anniversary in October of 2019. We knew for a while that our relationship would lead to marriage and I would always say to him, "I'd say yes to you if you asked me today on the couch." When plan after plan didn't work out, "the couch" was exactly how it happened.”
How did the two of you meet?
“We met at Southwestern College when I was a sophomore and Troy was a junior. We had a history class together one fall semester and Troy would often ask me to meet him in the library to study. I was a history major and so I always thought we were just friends and he needed my help. So, when he asked me on a date, I was really not expecting it! But it didn't take us long after our first date to know that we had something long-lasting.”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
“I always knew I wanted a lot of greenery in both the decor and the florals and I was going for a very romantic feel. I loved the dark green of the bridesmaid's dresses and we added in blush and ivory to complement and lighten the dark green aesthetic.”
How did you know your gown was the one?
“When there was just absolutely nothing else that could compare. Wedding dresses are beautiful and they all make you feel beautiful to some degree. But I tried on quite a few and I just kept coming back to the one! It had details that I couldn't get over, it made me feel bridal, and I knew it would be perfect for the look and feel I wanted for our wedding day.”
