REAL BRIDE: Brittany
Caleb + Brittany Witt
10.12.18
These two are special, you guys! From the reason behind their wedding date to their thoughts walking down the aisle - their story is a good one. Brittany’s appointment with us in September of 2017 is one I personally will never forget as her reaction to finding her gown was SO incredible - we all just knew that that was it when she tried it on [ the way it should be ]!
Keep scrolling to read Brittany’s take on wedding planning, wedding day + what it’s like to marry your best friend. She’s the sweetest + the Witt’s happiness beams in their photography by Felisha Meadows.
P.S. Have we mentioned we are obsessed with The Bauer? Because we are + will probably never get over it + the views of our Kansas City skyline from their space.
Tell us about the proposal!
“It was a random Friday in January 2017. Caleb's brother + sister-in-law were in town + we had planned to go out in downtown Kansas City that night with his brothers + some friends. We took Ubers to Union Station where we planned to use the restroom + then hop on the KC Street Car to Power + Light. In complete oblivion, I walked out of the restroom with Caleb's sister-in-law who quickly grabbed my purse away from me as Caleb approached from the other direction to guide me toward the front of Union Station. At that point, it had clicked in my mind as to what was about to happen. I remember giggling + smiling uncontrollably as Caleb said the sweetest things + then asked me to be his wife + best friend forever. My answer of acceptance was loud + clear + then we went out to celebrate with family + friends for the rest of the night!”
How did you know your gown was the one?
“I felt so comfortable + like myself in it, without being overwhelmed or over-powered by the gown. At the same time, I felt elegant + beautiful, just as that special gown should make you feel! It was the perfect package + I really do think that "aha!" moment of knowing "this is THE ONE" does exist!”
What advice would you give to other brides in regards to dress shopping?
“Go in with an open mind + try on dresses that you may not think you will like! Before finding my dress, I had sworn that my wedding dress would have sleeves + I absolutely would not have a strapless gown because I "didn't want to be pulling it up all night". However, when I got to Something White Bridal Boutique, [ which was the third boutique I had been to ] my wonderful bridal consultant, Paige, suggested that I try on a strapless gown - the first one I would try on at that point. I liked the overall look of the gown on the hanger but remember being very hesitant about the no-straps-or-sleeves scenario. When I tried that dress on, it was so comfortable + fit so perfectly that my mind began to change. Then, Paige brought out something called a "topper", + MAN OH MAN, did that topper change everything! It completed the look that I was going for + I felt so comfortable in the gown. Long story short, Paige knew + understood what I was looking for better than I even did, so I recommend keeping an open mind, trying new things + being open to suggestions [ especially from the experts in this field ]!”
How did you decide on October 12th?
“I have always wanted to get married in October because it is my favorite month + I just love Fall! Also, Caleb + I started dating six years ago on October 12th 2012, so we thought, why not celebrate our six year dating anniversary by getting married?!”
What was one of your favorite moments from your wedding day?
“Even though Caleb + I did a private “first look" before our wedding ceremony, walking down the aisle towards him with my father is my most favorite memory from our day. Seeing how beaming + emotional he was [ he was clearly choked up, but not blubbering, haha ] really made me stop + think, "Wow, this man really really loves me + I am about to marry my best friend." I knew that he was thinking the same things as I walked down the aisle toward him. It really was a surreal moment + felt like it was just me + him even though we were surrounded by hundreds of our family members + friends.”
Where did you draw your inspiration + ideas from?
“Honestly, we were very inspired by The Bauer's rustic + exposed brick look. The space is beautiful - even without any decorations - so we felt that we could keep it pretty simple + budget-friendly with our centerpieces, flowers + decorations + it worked out great. My mother-in-law also had the awesome idea of using fresh lavender, rosemary + baby's breath to put in our wide-mouth mason jar centerpieces which really just hit the rustic theme out of the park, plus it smelled awesome! Also, who can forget that Pinterest is the ultimate platform to create your very own "dream wedding day" board for inspiration + ideas!”
Did you have a specific theme in mind while planning?
“I had always known that I wanted dark plum purple colored bridesmaid dresses with a lot of greenery, gold + blush tones as accent colors for decorations + centerpieces. I also have always loved the more rustic look + theme when it came to centerpieces + decorations. When we found The Bauer on The Knot we immediately fell in love + knew that it would be the perfect space for our reception. With The Bauer's exposed brick, string lights + old wooden floors, we knew the rustic theme + color choices would tie together very well.”
How did the two of you meet?
“We met at Rockhurst University where we both attended school. Caleb was a Junior + I was a Freshman when we first met at Caleb's fraternity's annual event, Pike Spike, which is a sand volleyball tournament. Caleb slyly asked me to hold his fishbowl while he played in his match + the rest is history!”
Congratulations Brittany + Caleb!
Here’s to the sweetest forever!
