frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I make an appointment?
Once you know your availability, give us a call. If you are thinking of a weekend appointment, it is best to call and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. To make it even easier and save you time, you can schedule an appointment online.

How long is my appointment?
We have found that 1.5 hours is generally the perfect amount of time to try on a wide selection of items. Your bridal consultant will get to know you during this time to better understand your wedding style and offer a variety of options to help you find the gown of your dreams.

What should I bring to my appointment?
For your initial appointment, we encourage you to wear the proper undergarments, including a strapless bra if desired. Feel free to bring any pictures you may have for ideas, but that is not vital. More than anything, bring an open mind to your appointment.

Why is bridal sizing different than the sizing for regular clothing?
Bridal gown sizing typically runs 1-2 sizes bigger than the size of the everyday clothing you have in your closet. So if you normally wear a size 8, don’t be surprised if you are a 10 or 12 in your bridal gown. Something White, like most bridal boutiques, only carries one sample of each dress style. The sample size ranges from a 6 to a 16. In any instance where the sample size is too large or too small, we can clip the gown in such a way so that you can see what the gown will look like when fitted to your body.

I’m planning on losing weight, what should I do?
We always recommend purchasing the gown that best fits your current body and size. If you reach your weight goals, come in for a hug so we can celebrate with you. If needed, we can connect you with some of the best seamstresses in the area. If you don’t lose weight, no worries – your beautiful gown will still feel wonderful and fit great!

When do I need to order my gown?
We recommend brides order their gown at least 6-8 months before your wedding date. While that may seem like far in advance, you will want to give yourself plenty of time for alterations, if needed. Depending on the gown, rush options are available for additional fees.

Why do I need alterations if you order a gown based off of my measurements?
For most of our designers, we order your gown using a size chart. This means we take your measurements and then order the size that best fits those measurements. In most cases, we must order the size that corresponds with your largest measurement (for example, if you are a size 10 bust, size 6 waist, and size 8 hip, we have to order the size 10). This means that generally, when the gown comes in, there are going to be parts of the gown that likely need to be taken in.

Do you do alterations in house?
Something White does not provide alterations on-site, but our brides will be provided contact information to a variety of seamstresses in the Kansas City metro area. These experts specialize in consistent, quality alterations at competitive pricing.

We are continually updating this list as we receive questions from our brides. If you have any questions and cannot find the answer here or elsewhere on our website, please call us at 816-216-7454 or email us at hello@somethingwhitebridalboutique.com and we will be happy to help you!
