We know you have been shopping your entire life, but buying your wedding gown is a little different - in the best way. We’re talking couture garments that are made-to-order specifically for you. Below are some common questions we get asked on the reg.

For more tips and tricks on how to prepare for your bridal appointment at SWBB, check out our blog here.

Do I need an appointment to shop at SWBB?

Yes! Something White Bridal is an appointment only boutique. Because we are an intimate boutique, we dedicate a personal bridal stylist to each bride and are unable to accommodate walk-ins. Please click on the link above to book your appointment.

How far in advance should I make an appointment?

As a small boutique, we always fill up on the weekends. We recommend that once you know your availability, giving us a call. If you are thinking of a weekend appointment, it is best to call and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. To make it even easier and save you time, you can request to schedule an appointment online.

How long is my appointment?

We have found that 1.5 hours is generally the perfect amount of time to try on a wide variety of bridal fashion. Your bridal consultant will get to know you during this time to better understand your unique style and offer a variety of options to ensure you find the gown of your dreams.

What should I bring to my appointment?

For your initial appointment, we encourage you to wear the proper undergarments, including a strapless bra if desired. Feel free to bring any pictures you may have for ideas, but that is not vital. More than anything, bring an open mind and your “say yes” squad to your appointment.

Is there nearby parking?

You will find complimentary parking in the lot on the corner of Truman Road and Walnut Street, right next to the boutique. There are signs that read “Reserved for the Something White Bride” and we ask that you utilize these spaces. If these are full, street parking is available at no cost along Walnut Street.

Does Something White Bridal have a cancelation policy?

We kindly ask that should you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, you do so before 48 hours to avoid our cancelation fee. Biggest reason for having a cancelation policy? We are a small boutique and always fill up on the weekends and offer private appointments throughout the week so we always have a waiting list and just want to ensure that should your schedule change, we are notified of that in advance so we can give other brides the chance to find their dream gown.

Why is bridal sizing different than the sizing for regular clothing?

Bridal gown sizing typically runs 1-2 sizes bigger than the size of the everyday clothing you have in your closet. So if you normally wear a size 8, don’t be surprised if you are a 10 or 12 in your bridal gown. Something White Bridal, like most bridal boutiques, only carries one sample of each dress style. Our sample gowns range in size from a 8 to a 26. In any instance where the sample size is too large or too small, we can clip the gown in such a way so that you can see what the gown will look like when fitted to your body.

I’m planning on losing weight, what should I do?

We always recommend purchasing the gown that best fits your current body and size. If you reach your weight goals, come in for a hug so we can celebrate with you. If needed, we can connect you with some of the best seamstresses in the area. If you don’t lose weight, no worries – your beautiful gown will still feel wonderful and fit great!

When do I need to order my gown?

We recommend brides order their gown at least 9-12 months before your wedding date. While that may seem like far in advance, you will want to give yourself 4-6 months for your gown to officially arrive and allow plenty of time for alterations. We suggest allowing 2-4 months for alterations. Depending on the gown and designer, rush options are available for additional fees.

Will I need alterations?

When ordering your gown, we order based on the designers size chart. This means we take your measurements and then order the size that best fits those measurements. In most cases, we must order the size that corresponds with your largest measurement [ for example, if you are a size 10 bust, size 6 waist, and size 8 hip, we recommend to order the size 10 ]. This means that generally, when your gown comes in, there are going to be parts of the gown that likely need to be taken in.

Do you offer alterations in house?

Something White Bridal does not provide alterations in-house, but our brides will be provided contact information to a variety of seamstresses in the Kansas City metro area. These experts specialize in consistent, quality alterations at competitive pricing. We also have a list of recommended seamstresses in various cities around the United States for our babes who are out of town!

Do you carry bridesmaids // prom // mother’s dresses?

At Something White Bridal, we focus solely on our brides and therefore do not carry bridesmaids or mother’s attire. However, we have several recommendations for bridesmaids, mother’s dresses and prom attire.

Do you offer cleaning // preservation following wedding day?

We are happy to offer cleaning and // or preservation so you can enjoy your gown for years to come. Feel free to come by any time during normal business hours and we will get you all taken care of.
